Actually our American friends could have maluches but I think that they aren’t the first car on many peoples ‘to import’ list.

There is so much want here. I'm US military and I'm stationed in Spain and I could buy one, but I don't want to end up with something I can't import back to the states and would have to sell before I left. It makes me so sad.

Buy something that’s 25 years old when you move back to the states.

There isn’t a standard, except for having the EU symbol and a country code on the left (to which the UK objects). Poland has changed its layout over the years, it used to be ABC 1234 but some of the ones in the picture are AB 12345 and others are AB 1A234.

Fiat Punto? This thing has barely 120HP in a 1.6 liter or 132HP in a 1.8 16-valves. Not suitable to ‘Mericans. Perhaps the first set of training wheels to your 16-year old kid. Which will be the butt of endless jokes all the way to used lot where he will trade it for a ‘78 camaro with a V8 and enough rust to build another car from it. It feels that ‘murica only dares to drive something with at least 250HP.

The rest of the planet is fine with the car, though.

Forget what I said about the Punto. THIS would be the butt of all jokes. Fiat 147 has all the power of an egg-beater. It emits more blue smoke than an entire country. You should mix 2-stroke oil with its gasoline, otherwise you must fill the oil reservoir on each fill-up.

Meh. I pay €0.45 a liter ($1.93 a gallon US) in the Netherlands. That LPG conversion sure is a blessing.

Having said that, gasoline is (over) 3 times as expensive, diesel about 2.5 times more expensive.

I’m guessing that “freezing” in an Australian context doesn’t mean quite what some of us would expect...

Does a “‘78 camaro with a V8” even have 132HP? The base V8s of that era really weren’t very powerful. The power to weight ratio sure is worse .

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Most of the engine and drivetrain components were carried over from 1969, with the exception of the 230 cu in (3.8 L) six-cylinder — the base engine was now the 250 cu in (4.1 L) six, rated at 155 hp (116 kW). The 1970 Camaro SS 396 had the 396 cu in (6.5 L) L78 rated at 350 hp (261 kW).

Even the shittiest camaro had 155HP, and wasn’t even a V8. The P/W ratio seems legit, though. Given they measured this thing at the shaft, not at the wheels...

So, there. I wild guessed, got lucky.

In the early 70s (but after 1970) US market engines became far less powerful due to environmental legislation. According to this website (quick google search) the base 6 in the ‘78 Camaro had 90 hp, the base V8 135 hp. 135>132, so I’ll admit defeat :)

That website also shows a curb weight of 3560 lbs, which in less archaic units is 1615 kg. No way a Punto weighs that much.

Kinja'd!!! Gonemad > duurtlang
08/28/2015 at 09:10

Kinja'd!!!0

Yep, a Punto goes about 800-1000 kg. Still, the same engine putting out 135HP at the wheels is forcibly bigger without all the emission-gag mufflers.

Yet, Fiat dared to put a 105HP 1.6 engine pushing a full-blown station wagon at 1385kg in 2007.

Doesn’t have to be that bad. My Ford Focus wagon company car from 2013 has 105 hp as well, from a 1.6 turbodiesel. It actually feels quick in the city, when the turbo kicks in. On highways not as much, but it’s okay. The empty weight of the Focus is 1274 kg, so curb weight will be 1374 kg.

Oh, and the 105 hp diesel wasn’t the base diesel engine in that Focus.

Relative to Europe? Until gasoline ceases to be a primary fuel for transportation.

In absolute terms? A year or two.
